Nail Surgery

Nail Surgery

Ingrown or painful toe nails can be the result of a number of factors, including injury to the toe or nail plate, poorly fitting shoes, poor nail cutting techniques or from a thickened or misshapen nail. Usually it is a combination of one or more of these factors.

Ingrown nails if caught early can be treated conservatively. However, the more chronic the problem the more likely nail surgery will be the only curvature option.

Nail surgery will involve a pre-operative health and foot vascular check. A full or partial resection of the nail plate is then removed under local anaesthetic. A chemical is then applied to prevent nail re-growth. Healing times do vary depending on the individual and type of surgery performed, however it takes between 4-8 weeks.
